Make Homeschool Safe Act

The Make Homeschool Safe Act is our comprehensive model legislation. Lawmakers have used aspects of this to draft policy that connects to their individual states if there are components that resonate with a specific season or community need.

Our Recommendations

Rooted in research and lived experience, solutions presented in the MHSA center on these concepts. 

  • Systems ensuring homeschooled children have access to more safe adults.
  • Regular, in-person assessments of progress and well-being for homeschooled children. 
  • Preventing adults convicted of crimes against children from homeschooling and strong partnership with child welfare organizations. 
  • Collaboration with public schools for extracurriculars, disability services, and libraries.
  • Supporting secular resources for homeschooling families.
